Creating a GST invoice
A GST invoice should show your business name, address and GSTIN, a sequential invoice number and date, your customer's details (and their GSTIN for B2B supplies), a description of the goods or services, and the GST rate and amount. Add your GSTIN under your business name or in the notes, and the generator calculates the GST line and grand total.
For an Indian tax invoice, two fields this tool doesn't have dedicated inputs for are still mandatory: the HSN code (for goods) or SAC code (for services) against each line, and the place of supply (the destination state and its code) for inter-state sales. Put the HSN/SAC alongside each item description, and add the place of supply in the notes.
This tool applies GST as a single tax line. For an intra-state supply you split it into CGST and SGST; for an inter-state supply it's IGST at the combined rate. Note the split in the notes field — the combined rate and total stay the same.
Read this supply the way a GST officer would
This is a wholesale supply from a Bengaluru trader to a retailer in the same state, billed per unit at prices exclusive of GST. Each description carries its HSN code, and the outward freight goes on as its own line with its SAC code so it is taxed along with the goods it moves. Every line here sits in the same 18% slab, which is what lets one tax line carry the whole bill — and because buyer and seller are both in Karnataka, that 18% is spelled out as CGST 9% plus SGST 9% in the notes.
| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vacuum insulated steel bottle 750ml — HSN 9617 | 120 | ₹245.00 | ₹29,400.00 |
| Vacuum flask 1L, wide mouth — HSN 9617 | 40 | ₹610.00 | ₹24,400.00 |
| Vacuum insulated steel casserole 2.5L — HSN 9617 | 24 | ₹1,150.00 | ₹27,600.00 |
| Outward freight to Mysuru — SAC 996511 | 1 | ₹1,650.00 | ₹1,650.00 |
| Subtotal | ₹83,050.00 | ||
| GST 18% | ₹14,949.00 | ||
| Total due | ₹97,999.00 | ||
HSN and SAC codes sit inside each description because there is no separate code column, and freight is billed as a line item so it is taxed at the same rate as the goods it carries.
Requirements a GST invoice cannot skip
GSTIN for both parties
Print your 15-digit GSTIN under your business name and the buyer's GSTIN under theirs in the client address block — a B2B tax invoice is not valid without both.
HSN or SAC on every line
Append the HSN code for goods or the SAC code for services to each line description, as in "Cotton shirt — HSN 6205", since the form has no dedicated code column.
Place of supply
Name the place of supply in the notes: it decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or a single IGST line, and it is mandatory once the buyer sits in another state.
One 18% line, split in the notes
The form takes a single tax line, so enter GST at 18% and write "CGST 9% + SGST 9%" in the notes for an intra-state sale, or call it IGST 18% when you're billing across state lines.
Serial number and sign-off
Keep an unbroken financial-year series such as GST/26-27/0042 and add "Authorised signatory" with your declaration in the notes; the download is a plain PDF tax invoice, not an IRN-signed e-invoice from the government portal.

Frequently asked questions
Which GST rate should I enter?
Enter the rate that applies to your goods or services under your country's GST rules — for example 10% in Australia, or the slab rate that applies to your supply in India. The tax is calculated on the subtotal after any discount.
Do I need an HSN or SAC code on the invoice?
On Indian GST invoices, yes — goods carry an HSN code and services carry a SAC code, with the number of digits depending on your turnover. Enter it next to each line item's description, since the tool has one description field per line.
CGST and SGST, or IGST?
Intra-state supplies (same state) split the rate into CGST plus SGST; inter-state supplies charge IGST at the full rate. The generator shows one combined tax line, so note the breakdown — e.g. 'GST 18% = CGST 9% + SGST 9%' — in the notes field.
Where does my GSTIN go?
Put it under your business name in the address field, or in the notes section. For B2B invoices, include your customer's GSTIN in their address block too.
