The fewest fields that still look professional
A simple invoice only has to answer four questions: who's billing, who's being billed, what for and how much, and when it's due. Put your business name and the client's name at the top, add one or two line items with a description and an amount, set an issue date and a due date, and you're done — everything totals automatically as you type. You don't need to touch every field to end up with a document that looks professional.
Leave out what doesn't apply. If you're not registered for sales tax or VAT, leave the tax rate empty and no tax line appears. Skip the discount, skip the notes, upload a logo only if you actually want one on the page. The point of a simple invoice is to send something clean in a hurry, not to fill in a form — so the preview only shows the fields you use.
When you download the PDF, your draft stays saved in the browser. Next time you need to bill the same client, open the page, change the invoice number and the dates, and download again — the second simple invoice takes under a minute.
The whole month on three lines
Jordan works the market stall for a small flower farm and bills by the shift rather than by the hour, so a whole month collapses into three lines: the Saturday markets, the shorter midweek ones, and the Friday evenings spent loading the van. Each line is one kind of shift, with how many of them in the quantity column and the agreed rate beside it. No tax, no discount, no logo, no timesheet attached.
| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Farmers market — Saturday stall, day rate | 4 | $150.00 | $600.00 |
| Midweek market — Wednesday, half day | 3 | $85.00 | $255.00 |
| Van loading and stock prep — Friday evening | 4 | $35.00 | $140.00 |
| Subtotal | $995.00 | ||
| Total due | $995.00 | ||
One line per kind of shift with the count beside it: a simple invoice earns its keep by being impossible to misread, not by being detailed.
The short list, and nothing more
Both names, top and bottom
Your name or trading name goes in the sender block and the client's in the one below — a simple invoice can skip full postal addresses if you both already know them, but never the names.
One line per thing
Say what you did in plain words with the amount beside it, and if you catch yourself splitting one job across five lines, this is no longer the simple invoice you came for.
A number, even 001
Start at 001 and count up, because the invoice number is what you and the client will both quote when a payment goes missing.
A real due date
Pick an actual date in the due-date field instead of typing "Net 14" into the notes — a date takes one click and leaves nothing to interpret.
Skip what you don't need
Leave the tax rate, the discount and the logo empty and none of them appear on the PDF at all, which is the whole point of this page.

Frequently asked questions
What's the least I need on an invoice?
Your name, the client's name, a description of what you're charging for with the amount, an invoice number, and a due date. Add your addresses and email if the client needs them for their records — everything else is optional.
Do I have to add tax?
No. If you're not registered to charge sales tax, VAT, or GST, leave the tax rate blank and no tax line shows up. If you are, set the rate and label and it's calculated on the subtotal for you.
Can I make a simple invoice without a logo?
Yes — the logo is optional. Leave it off for a plain text-and-numbers invoice, or upload a PNG or JPEG if you want your mark at the top. Both look tidy on the PDF.
How do I make the next one faster?
Your draft autosaves in the browser as you type. Reopen the page, bump the invoice number, update the dates and line items, and download the new PDF — no re-entering your details.
