Moms and your Swedish faktura
A Swedish invoice is a faktura. If you're registered for Moms, it needs your business name and address, your organisationsnummer, your VAT number (momsregistreringsnummer), the invoice number and dates, a description of what you sold, and the Moms shown separately. Put the organisationsnummer and momsregistreringsnummer on their own lines under your business name, keep the currency on SEK, and leave the tax label as Moms at 25%.
25% is the standard rate, but Sweden has two reduced rates — 12% for restaurant meals and hotel stays, and 6% for books, newspapers, cultural events and passenger transport. Groceries are normally 12% but sit at 6% under a temporary cut running to the end of 2027. The generator gives you one Moms line, so set the rate that matches what you're billing; if one job mixes rates, either issue separate fakturor or spell out the split in the notes field.
Not registered for Moms? A small business under the SEK 120,000 annual turnover threshold may not need to register — clear the tax rate so no Moms line shows, and add a short note that you're not Moms-registered. Because Moms is worked out on the subtotal after any discount, a percentage discount comes off before the 25% is calculated.
Which lines does the ROT deduction actually cover?
Nyströms El replaces the consumer unit in a private house in Uppsala, so the faktura keeps labour and materials strictly apart. The electrician's time is one line — the hours, including the half hour, in the quantity column with the hourly rate alongside — and the call-out charge is a fixed line of its own. Every part is billed per unit at its own price, from the new elcentral down to the metres of cable. Moms stays on the standard 25%.
| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Byte av elcentral — arbete (timpris) | 6.5 | SEK 675.00 | SEK 4,387.50 |

| Elcentral 12 moduler inkl. jordfelsbrytare — material | 1 | SEK 3,450.00 | SEK 3,450.00 |
| Automatsäkring 16A — material | 8 | SEK 119.00 | SEK 952.00 |
| Kabel EKK 3G2,5 — per meter | 25 | SEK 34.00 | SEK 850.00 |

| Moms 25% | SEK 2,508.63 | ||

Labour sits on separate lines from materials because a household customer's ROT reduction is worked out on the arbetskostnad alone.
Get the ROT details right the first time
Organisationsnummer and F-skatt
Put your organisationsnummer and momsregistreringsnummer on lines under your business name in the address block, and state that you are godkänd för F-skatt in the notes, since private customers check that before they hire you.
Labour split from materials
Keep arbetskostnad on its own line or lines and put every part and metre of cable on separate per-unit lines, because a household customer's ROT or RUT reduction only applies to the labour portion.
ROT details in the notes
There are no fields for the customer's personnummer or the fastighetsbeteckning a ROT claim needs, so put both in the notes together with the labour amount the claim is based on — and leave the discount field alone, since it works on the whole subtotal rather than on the labour lines.
Moms at 25%
The tax line is preset to Moms at 25%; use 12% for hotel and restaurant work or 6% for books, culture and passenger transport, and never mix two rates on one faktura since only a single rate is calculated.
Due date and late interest
Set the issue and due dates — 30 days is the usual Swedish term for a private customer — and mention dröjsmålsränta enligt räntelagen in the notes, as there is no separate field for late-payment terms.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I put my organisationsnummer and VAT number?
Add them on lines under your business name in the address block — for example 'Organisationsnummer 556677-8899' and 'Momsreg.nr SE556677889901'. A Moms-registered faktura should show both.
Which Moms rate do I use — 25%, 12% or 6%?
25% is the standard rate. Use 12% for restaurant and hotel services, or 6% for books, newspapers, cultural events and passenger transport — groceries are temporarily 6% (down from 12%) until the end of 2027. The tool has one tax line, so pick the rate for what you're billing and check with an accountant if you're unsure.
Do I have to charge Moms as a small business?
If your annual turnover is under SEK 120,000 you may be able to skip Moms registration and invoice without it — just clear the tax rate. Thresholds and eligibility change, so confirm your situation with Skatteverket or an accountant.
Is Moms calculated before or after a discount?
After. The generator applies your discount to the subtotal first, then calculates Moms on the discounted amount, so a 25% Moms line is worked out on the lower figure.
