Invoicing a website project
A website project rarely fits on one line. Break the invoice into the phases the client already agreed to — discovery, design, build, launch — each as its own line item with its fixed price, so the client can see exactly which part of the work they're paying for. Change requests that fall outside the agreed scope go on a separate hourly line: hours in the quantity column (decimals like 2.5 work), your hourly rate in the rate column, and the line total is calculated for you.
Most web designers bill in two halves — a deposit invoice for 50% before work starts and a balance invoice on launch. Give each one its own number in the same sequence (INV-014 for the deposit, INV-015 for the balance) so your records stay clean.
